Pat Naples is a trial and appellate litigator in the firm's Complex Litigation Practice Group. Pat frequently represents businesses confronting litigation in heavily regulated industries. Among other clients, Pat has represented healthcare providers in commercial and managed care disputes, real estate developers in land use, leasing, construction, Fair Housing, and environmental matters, and government contractors confronting whistleblower and employment issues.

Before entering private practice, Pat clerked for Special Master Lisa Hamilton-Fieldman at the US Court of Federal Claims and served in the Office of Staff Counsel for the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He also interned for the Honorable Samuel Der-Yeghiayan of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Complex Commercial Litigation

Recent representative matters with which Pat has been involved include:

  • Argued municipal tax appeal before the Supreme Court of Connecticut on behalf of nonprofit housing provider, successfully persuading Court, in unanimous decision, to recognize nonprofit’s real property as tax-exempt.
  • Represented municipality as first-chair in multi-day evidentiary hearing to enforce settlement agreement in decade-long construction dispute.
  • Tried premises-liability dispute as first chair on behalf of convenience-store chain, resulting in no-liability finding.
  • Represented government contractor in internal investigation, subsequent Department of Defense investigation, and related litigation arising out of employment dispute, culminating in no findings of liability and dismissal of suit.
  • Drafted amicus curiae briefs on behalf of national trade association in high-profile real estate litigation.
  • Represented Chapter 11 trustee in civil RICO adversary proceeding against owners of grocery store chain, resulting in six-figure award of discovery sanctions and eight-figure settlement of claims.

Previous Work

Prior to joining Arent Fox, Pat practiced commercial litigation for five years with law firms in Washington, DC, and Connecticut.
