Leading Health Care Policy Authority Lanhee Chen Joins Arent Fox
San Francisco, CA – Arent Fox LLP is pleased to announce that Lanhee J. Chen, Ph.D, one of the top health care policy strategists in the country, has joined the firm’s San Francisco office and nationally recognized Health Care practice as counsel. Dr. Chen will work with Arent Fox’s team of health care and life sciences attorneys to advise clients on a wide variety of issues, ranging from the impact of the Affordable Care Act on states, businesses, and all segments of the health care economy to matters relating to ERISA, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Brown. “He will be able to provide superb guidance to health care businesses who are trying to succeed in a constantly changing regulatory environment.”
Dr. Chen is currently the David and Diane Steffy Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution; director of Domestic Policy Studies and lecturer in the Public Policy Program at Stanford University; and an affiliate of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford. His research focuses on health policy, retirement security policy, campaigns and elections, and California policy and politics. Dr. Chen will continue his teaching and research at Stanford while working with Arent Fox.
Dr. Chen also serves as a presidentially-appointed and Senate-confirmed member of the Social Security Advisory Board — an independent, bipartisan panel that advises the president, Congress, and the Commissioner of Social Security on matters related to the Social Security and Supplemental Security Income programs.
A veteran of several high profile political campaigns, Dr. Chen served as policy director for the 2012 Romney-Ryan campaign and was responsible for developing the campaign’s domestic and foreign policy agenda. Previously, Dr. Chen served as a senior official at the US Department of Health and Human Services during the George W. Bush administration and was health policy advisor to the 2004 Bush-Cheney reelection campaign. Earlier this year, POLITICO 50 named Dr. Chen to its list of the “thinkers, doers and visionaries transforming American politics.”
Dr. Chen sits on the Board of Directors of El Camino Hospital, the Board of Trustees of the Junior Statesmen Foundation, and the Advisory Board of the Partnership for the Future of Medicare. He also is a member of the Committee of 100, an influential organization of Chinese Americans. Dr. Chen holds an AB in government magna cum laude from Harvard College, PhD and AM in political science from Harvard University and JD cum laude from Harvard Law School.
