Arent Fox Washington DC Partner Ralph Taylor Appointed to the ABA’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary

    November 15, 2016

Washington, DC — Last month, the president of the American Bar Association appointed Complex Litigation partner Ralph Taylor to the Federal Circuit seat on the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary. The Committee’s sole task is to evaluate the professional qualifications of all individuals whom the President of the United States has nominated to the Supreme Court of the United States and all persons identified by the President as possible nominees to federal judgeships in any of the lower federal courts, including the circuit courts of appeals, the district courts, the Court of International Trade, and the territorial district courts for the Virgin Islands, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

The Committee’s evaluations are intended to help ensure that the best-qualified persons serve on the federal judiciary. To that end, the Committee conducts independent and impartial peer-review evaluations focusing solely on the professional qualifications -- integrity, professional competence, and judicial temperament -- of individuals the President has nominated or is considering nominating to the federal bench.  The Committee’s evaluations do not consider a nominee’s philosophy, political affiliation, or ideology.

The 15-member Committee has two members from the Ninth Circuit, one member from each of the other 12 federal judicial circuits, and one member-at-large. Appointments to the Committee are based on a lawyer’s possession of the highest professional stature and integrity; members have varied professional experiences and backgrounds. Each Committee member spends hundreds of hours per year on a voluntary basis to provide this vital public service.

Mr. Taylor has more than 40 years of experience in complex litigation before numerous state and federal trial and appellate courts, administrative agencies, and domestic and international arbitration tribunals. He is listed in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Super Lawyers, and Top Rated Lawyers. He also holds a Martindale-Hubbell AV® PreeminentTM 5.0 out of 5 Peer Review Rating.
