Arent Fox Partner Carol Connor Cohen Named one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in Washington, DC

    April 27, 2015

Washington, DC — Carol Connor Cohen, head of Arent Fox LLP’s ERISA Litigation practice, has once again been named by Super Lawyers as one of the 50 top women lawyers in the DC-area.

Ms. Cohen concentrates on ERISA and employee benefits litigation, bankruptcy litigation, and employment litigation. She defends employers, fiduciaries, and employee benefit plans in ERISA litigation involving claims with respect to defined benefit plans, including cash balance pension plans, and claims of breach of fiduciary duty involving 401(k) plans and employee stock ownership plans. Ms. Cohen also handles litigation involving retiree health benefits and claims arising under the Medicare Secondary Payer Act. As a result of her notable work, Arent Fox has been consistently rated by Chambers USA, Legal 500, and US News as among the best firms in the country for ERISA and employee benefits litigation.

In the bankruptcy area, Ms. Cohen represents retiree committees, official committees of unsecured creditors, municipal bondholders, bond insurers, secured creditors, debtors, and indenture trustees. In recent years, much of her work has focused on municipal bankruptcies and the intersection between bankruptcy and employee benefits law. Ms. Cohen has also handled a large number of appeals in the state and federal appeals courts and the US Supreme Court.

Ms. Cohen has been recognized for the past several years as a Leading Lawyer by Chambers USA and the Legal 500 and has for many years been selected by her peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America. Among her standout work, Ms. Cohen has defended several major employers in class action challenges to their cash balance pension plans, while winning significant, precedent-setting victories, and she has defended employers in cases alleging breaches of fiduciary duty with respect to plan investments in ESOPs.
