Arent Fox Congratulates Log Cabin Republicans on Historic Win in “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Case

Federal Judge Strikes Down Controversial Policy Toward Gay Members of the Military in Suit Brought by Long-Time Arent Fox Client

Washington, DC — September 10, 2010 – Arent Fox LLP congratulates long-time client Log Cabin Republicans on their historic win in their lawsuit against the US government “don’t ask, don’t tell” (DADT) policy.

“This lawsuit took a tremendous amount of courage, resources and discipline,” said Log Cabin Republican General Counsel Craig Engle. “Everyone should feel a great sense of relief that a real victory has been won in the battle against this discriminatory practice.”

Engle especially commended lead counsel Dan Woods at White and Case for volunteering their time and talent. “In the end, Dan’s firepower outmatched anything the Justice Department could muster. The entire White and Case litigation team deserves all the respect and admiration.”

The Log Cabin Republicans DADT lawsuit survived many challenges during its six years in the courts. Delays with the original judge nearly crippled the case according to Engle, who is a partner in Arent Fox’s Political Law and Government Relations Practices.

“Every member of Log Cabin Republicans deserves an enormous thanks for sticking with this lawsuit. It was just too important to quit,” Engle said.

When asked if the litigation would be ridiculed since it was brought by a Republican organization, Engle replied: “Read pages 27 and 28 of the court’s opinion. That has nothing to do with being a Republican or Democrat.”
